Beauty Investigated: Dilemmas, Projects and Promises Exhibiton
The “Beauty Investigated: Dilemmas, Projects and Promises” exhibition will explore the cultural and social constructs of beauty through a series of artworks. The exhibition is organized by art and visual culture faculty Ingrid Lilligren, professor, and Johhny DiBlasi, assistant professor. The art will be on view in Gallery 181 from 8 a.m.–5 p.m. on weekdays between Thursday, Jan. 18–Thursday, Feb. 22. A reception will be held from 6:15–7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 15, in Gallery 181.
The exhibition will be comprised of various media including installation, performance, text-based works and sculpture. The exhibition will address how beauty is constructed and defined, who determines the meanings of beauty, the social history of standards of beauty and the consequences of their application, and the relevance and impact of how we think about this all too often overused concept.
